What the labels mean

Each request moves through a series of stages. The colored pill on every tracker tells you exactly where things stand.

Open with the agency

Submitted requests in the negotiation phase, before any matter has been escalated to the Office of the Attorney General.

Submitted Request just filed; the agency has 10 business days to respond.

Awaiting Agency The legal response window has passed but we still don't have a complete answer.

Clarification Requested The agency has asked us to narrow or clarify what we're asking for.

Followup Sent We sent a reminder or escalation after the agency missed the response window.

Cost Estimate Received The agency provided a charge to fulfill the request; we're evaluating it.

Cost Estimate Disputed We pushed back on the charge or asked for itemization.

Payment Pending We agreed to the charge and are completing payment so the agency will produce records.

Records Confirmed; Not Produced We have evidence the records exist in systems the agency has access to. The agency has not produced them and has been notified of the discrepancy.

Agency Sent to OAG The agency told us they're referring the request to the Office of the Attorney General. Not yet visible on the OAG's public docket.

With the OAG

Requests where the Office of the Attorney General is reviewing an exemption claim, considering a complaint about agency conduct, or has issued a ruling.

Under AG Review The OAG has confirmed receipt and is reviewing the request. Independently verifiable on the OAG's public ruling system.

AG Complaint Filed We filed a complaint with the OAG about agency conduct (overcharging, non-response, etc.) — separate from the agency's own referral.

AG Ruling: Released The OAG ruled that records must be released to us.

AG Ruling: Withheld The OAG ruled that the agency may withhold the records under a claimed exemption.

AG Ruling: Mixed The OAG ruled that some records must be released and others may be withheld.

OAG Compliance Issue The OAG ruled in our favor (release ordered), but the agency has not produced the records or has claimed records don't exist after the ruling.

Appeal Filed We are appealing an OAG ruling.

Resolved

Requests that have been answered, denied, withdrawn, or otherwise closed.

Records Released Records were produced in full.

Partial Release Records were produced with redactions or omissions.

Exemption Claimed; Partial Release Records were partially released. The agency claimed an exemption for the withheld portion (e.g., active investigation, victim privacy), and we accepted the claim rather than escalating to the OAG.

Withheld Records denied; matter closed.

No Records The agency confirmed it has no records responsive to the request.

Withdrawn We voluntarily withdrew the request before resolution.

Abandoned The request stalled out (e.g., excessive cost we declined to pay).

Released by OAG Order; Agency Non-Compliance The OAG ordered release, but the agency did not produce the records. Matter closed as documented agency non-compliance.
