Texas Rangers Investigation into Britton Shoellhorn - Partial Release · ref P010522-042126
This is what DPS did release as basic information in response to the request.
The released document is an initial notification / supplemental report tied to Case Number 2026-0005258, identified as a felony person offense. It states that on or about February 3, 2026, Texas Ranger Roggan Stanzel was contacted by Polk County Commissioner Mark Dubose.
According to the report, Dubose advised that he had been notified by one of his constituents regarding possible criminal activities related to City of Onalaska Code Enforcement Officer Britton Shoellhorn. Dubose then provided the Ranger with a flash drive containing recordings and field notes.
This appears to confirm that a Texas Rangers investigation was opened or at minimum formally initiated after information and evidence were provided. It also helps explain why DPS withheld most remaining records under Texas Government Code Section 552.108(a)(1), citing an open or pending criminal matter.
