Polk County Public Defenders Office - TPIA Request & Response - Request 25-78
I am requesting copies of all records, applications, correspondence, minutes, and supporting documents related to the establishment of the Polk County Public Defender’s Office, including but not limited to:
• The Texas Indigent Defense Commission (TIDC) grant application and award documents;
• All Commissioners Court meeting materials (agendas, packets, minutes, votes, and recordings) from July 1, 2024 through October 31, 2025, where the Public Defender’s Office or indigent defense funding was discussed;
• Any emails, memoranda, or correspondence between County Judge Sydney Murphy, Commissioners, and the TIDC concerning the creation, funding, or staffing of the Public Defender’s Office; and
• Any internal or external budget impact analyses showing the county’s planned matching funds or long-term funding obligations.
Please include any communication or documentation referencing use of the general fund or reserve funds for this purpose.
I understand the Texas Public Information Act provides a 10-business-day response period. I am granting an additional 20 calendar days (for a total of 30 days) only if no Attorney General ruling is sought under Government Code § 552.301. This does not waive any rights under the Act.
Please make this request and any responsive records public on the NextRequest portal once processing is complete.
